Faribault Mill is on the Cannon River in Minnesota.  It is 160 years old and is one of the last vertical woolen mills in America.  Fifth generation craftspeople take raw wool and create blankets, throws, scarves, and accessories.  In 2022 they joined forces with another iconic American mill in Maine that specializes in cotton called Brahms Mount.  Together they produce classic and traditional products.

I love throws, and these 100% fine pure wool throws are beautiful.  The navy and white stripe pictured above is $175 and can be personalized. It measures 50” x 72” and should be dry cleaned.

This 100% cotton throw is 48” x 70” and comes in 13 colors.  It can be machine washed cold. It is $195.00.

Real Simple had an article about the things you should NEVER clean with bleach.  I was shocked at the top item on the list – mold. Bleach does kill surface mold, but it doesn’t remove dead mold particles which means that exposure can continue.

Other things not to use bleach to clean are:

  • Porous and semi-porous materials like wood or drywall- it can break down wood fibers.
  • Colored fabrics – bleach will permanently ruin them.
  • Stainless steel – bleach can create corrosion and ruin the finish.
  • Natural stone – bleach will etch and damage countertops,
  • Carpets – bleach will cause discoloration and fiber damage.
  • Delicate fabrics – bleach destroys silk and lace.
