The Habitat is a seven part podcast series about six people who live in a faux-Mars habitat on a mountain top in Hawaii for a year as part of a NASA study to see what life might be like on the red planet. While it is a science podcast, much of the actual drama has to do with how the people involved deal with an unusual social experiment.

Concerts in a cave:

For the past 55 years, Cumberland Caverns in Nashville, TN has hosted many musicians in the Volcano Room. It is a cave 333 feet below the surface and has almost perfect acoustics. It is a phenomenal setting!

Check out Bluegrass Underground’s Season Eight concerts in the cave.

Barefoot Contessa/Ina Garten recently debuted an Instagram account @inagarten. She does short video clips and the photos are gorgeous.

Split expenses with friends:

When I travel with friends, we share expenses. We often designate a ‘treasurer’ who keeps track of who paid for lunch, tips and all the other incidental expenses. The problem? The ‘treasurer’s job, to sort out ‘who owes who’, is complicated and tiresome. The solution? Splitwise, a free app.

Each person in your group downloads the free Splitwise app and creates a group. When you pay for something, you go to the app and ‘add expense’. You can see payments from others. Splitwise will keep an up-to-date account of everyone’s balance. Splitwise does not transfer money.   You will still need to ‘settle up’ with each other at the end of the trip.

One of my daughters uses this for splitting expenses in a shared apartment.Splitwise from the App Store.
