I always have time for a good piece of cake.  I am picky, however, but there are enough choices here to satisfy my preferences.  Cakes freeze well, and a delicious cake is always good to have in the freezer in case of dessert emergencies.

Mother Myrick’s Lemon LuLu cake is a classic.  It is a light lemon pound cake that is moist, delicious, and it freezes well. I always have one in the freezer for unexpected dessert emergencies. A small cake serves 8 and is $36.95.  A large cake serves 14 and is $47.95. No customization is offered.

Caroline’s Cakes is an old favorite.  It’s a family-run company and has been around forever.

Their seven-layer cakes are my favorite, especially the caramel and the coconut cloud.  Cakes also come in four-layer and most cakes are 9” in diameter.  The starting price is $70.00.  There is no customization.  I always have one in my freezer, and they never fail to delight. A seven-layer 9” diameter Caroline’s Cake serves 14 – 20 people!

William’s Sonoma makes ordering a cake from some of the best bakeries including its own, easy.  Choose from We Take the Cake, Georgetown Cupcake, Flour Shop and Williams Sonoma’s own in-house bakery. The above cake is a William-Sonoma, a four-layer vanilla cake, 6” diameter and serves 8 – 10.  It is $89.95.

 

Magnolia Bakery uses a delicious buttercream on their cakes that I love. Their cakes are 6” diameter and three layers that serve 6 – 8, and a 9” diameter and three layers that serves 25 – 28. 6” diameter cakes start at $50.00 and the 9” diameter start at $60.00. They will inscribe a cake, and ship nationwide.

 

Send a Cake’s Famous Explosion Box Cake is a fun idea. Customers select a box design, select a cake flavor, and select as many fun surprises as desired to fill the box. The cakes are individual 3” diameter cakes. Prices start around $50.00.

Mrs. Fields makes a giant custom cookie cake.  It is 12” in diameter and will serve 12.  Choose from among nine color choices for the color of your top and bottom icing.  The cookie cake will last up to two weeks if stored in an airtight container at room temperature or frozen up to six months.  $50.00.

 

This is the famous coconut layer cake from the Peninsula Grill in Charleston.  It is delicious and well worth the calories.  The cake is expensive, but one cake serves 18-20 people and weighs 12 pounds.  The cake is sent FedEx to arrive the day after you place the order.  Bon Appetit called the cake “One of the South’s Grand Desserts”. $270.00.
