Avoid Extra chemicals and scents.
I like unscented household products. Why add the chemicals that give that ‘fresh’ scent? I prefer clean clothes and dishes – and less fake ‘fresh’. I recently tried some scent-free dishwasher pods and they clean as well as the national brand I have been using – better in fact – since there is no lingering perfume. I love making healthier choices – especially without sacrificing effectiveness. Here are some products that I have swapped for the ones I used to buy.
The Environmental Working Group has tested products and rated them for their risk to health and the environment. The Environmental Working Group has evaluated household products in a number of categories and ranked them A through F.
Dishwasher detergent can contain artificial fragrance, bleach, film former, binders, dyes and other chemicals.
These unscented pods get the top rating from EWG for product safety. They are available in Whole Foods stores. Some customers report that the packs can disintegrate before they are used, but I have been using them for a month without a problem. Available at 365 and Whole Foods stores.
EWG gives these packs an “A” rating. $23.98 for two bags with 45 packs in each bag.
Grab Green Dishwashing Pods get and “A” from the EWG and they are highly rated by critics. I use them. Grab Green Dishwashing Pods. $17.00 for 60 pods.

The reusable glass spray bottle comes with crystals inside – ready for you to add water. Once you empty the bottle, add another tablespoon of their flakes (refills sold separately), add water, and continue cleaning. The bottle has a nice, solid feel and glass is environmentally preferable to plastic – but it is breakable, so be careful.

They claim to be one hundred percent 100% Biodegradable. Extra Heavy Duty 1.0 mil Thick, Organic Waste Bags. 100 bags, $36.99
