Our skin needs TLC in the summer as well as winter.

Summer can be hard on our skin, but in a different way than winter.  In the summer, I shower at least once a day depending on my activities.  I often am in chlorinated pool water or the salty ocean, both of which I need to rinse off.  This is a lot of wet time for my skin, which becomes dry and flaky. Because the weather is hot, I don’t want a heavy moisturizer.  The outermost layer on our skin is its protective layer and that needs to be kept resilient.

Face Creams:

Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel is reported to be good for many different skin types.  It is an intense quenching moisturizer.  It has hyaluronic acid which increases skin’s elasticity and hydration. It also has glycerin which helps skin absorb moisture.  It is lightweight, quickly absorbed into the skin, and won’t get too oily.  It comes in scented and unscented versions.

1.7 oz. unscented is $11.54

1.7 oz. scented is $11.85.

Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 is a mineral-based cream made with 20% zinc oxide to protect skin from harmful UV rays.  It is lightweight and does not leave the white residue that some zinc oxide creams do.  It goes on easily and blends in quickly.  Several reviews said it left their skin ‘glowy’. It is great for daily use. $36.00 for 2 fl. oz.

This is an oil-free hybrid that is the perfect balance between a rich, dense moisturizer and a thin lotion moisturizer.  This one can be worn daily, under makeup.  It is good for all skin types.  $23.99.

Body Moisturizers:

Vaseline Radiant Body Lotion is nourishing without being greasy.  In tests, it left skin rid of flakiness and dullness. It contains coconut oil and vitamin C.  It is absorbed quickly with no residue and kept skin moisturized all day.  $13.98.

This is a lightly scented lotion that is lightweight and not sticky.  It gives the skin a ‘lustrous sheen’ which apparently makes it more photographic, should you be concerned about that.  I’ve always liked the Mario Badescu products and am going to try this lotion.  $20.90.

For many years, CeraVe moisturizing lotion has ranked at or very near the top of standout skincare product tests.  It is a light lotion that contains three skin-fortifying ceramides.  Ceramides are lipids found in skin cells. They are important for retaining your skin’s moisture.  In a recent Good Housekeeping Best Beauty Awards survey, tests showed that CeraVe had the highest hydration measured of all the moisturizers tested. It is fragrance-free, rates high for quick absorption, and the price is right.  $13.68.

Naturium Bio-Lipid Restoring Moisturizing Body Lotion with shea butter restores skin’s natural barrier.  It provides all day moisture with a grease-free formula.  It contains omega fatty acids, shea butter and B vitamins. $14.99.

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Daily Repair Moisturizing Lotion is for sensitive skin. It has been dermatologist-tested, allergy-tested, is fragrance-free, and oil-free. It is a rich glycerin skin cream for skin that needs something extra.  It can safely be used on babies 6 months and up, children and adults. It can be used on face, hands and body.    $19.99.
