Versatile workhorses for seating, suitcases and adding style to any space.

I discovered the usefulness of benches when I decorated the house before the one we live in now.  The house was old, built in 1779, but the rooms were enormous and required a lot of furniture to make them feel comfortable.  A strategically placed bench can seat three people in a pinch and can fill a lonely corner or wall.  Benches are also useful in smaller houses, like the one we live in now.  They can be unobtrusive against a wall and pulled up to add extra seating.  They also are great at the end of a bed, useful for sitting to put on shoes, or to place your suitcase for packing or unpacking, or as a step-up for a pet.
