Old products still create new beauty and at reasonable prices.

Years ago, I was traveling and realized to my horror that I had not packed my cosmetics bag with my favorite and hard to find skin regimen.  I went to the local drug store and took comfort in finding the products that were tried and true and I knew would not cause my skin any distress.  All these years later they are still going strong, so this is a a shout out to these quality products that have never let us down. Sometimes there is no improving perfection.

Pond’s Cold Cream is an excellent make up remover.  It was popular decades ago in old Hollywood to remove heavy make-up. It has a scent we all recognize, and it dissolves all traces of make-up while moisturizing your skin.  A 3.5 oz. jar is $7.09.

Pond’s also has a 24 hour facial moisturizer that nourishes the skin for up to 24 hours.  A 1.85 oz. jar is $6.56.

Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is still sold in the familiar rectangular bottle and was one of Clinique’s first products. It is a daily facial moisturizer and will keep skin hydrated for 8 hours. 6.7 fl. oz is $34.00.

Noxema Original is a classic cleanser.  It won’t dry the skin while it removes all dirt and oil.  It contains eucalyptus oil and leaves your skin refreshed and soft. It has a unique scent that is instantly recognizable.  A 2 oz. jar is $5.95.

Rosebud Salve has been around 150 years and it is still a family-owned business.  It can be used for almost everything, including diaper rash. It is particularly great for cuticles and hands, and chapped lips.    It also comes in tube form, but I’ve always loved the round tin. One 8 oz. tin is $7.00.

Nivea Crème is a German skin care brand that was launched in 1911.  It has a lovely scent and can be used for body, face and hands and for all skin types.  It is excellent to treat very dry skin. An 8.45 fl. oz. metal tin is $7.45.

I am sure I remember my mother using Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.  Its motto is  ‘apply it once, don’t think twice’.  It stays on for 15 hours, and your skin looks flawless. It will not rub off on clothes or smudge. It has an unusually high approval rating.  It has a 10 SPF.  A 1 fl. oz. bottle is $38.00.

Maybelline Mascara has always topped mascara surveys.  Designer mascara is so expensive and I’ve never found one I liked better than Maybelline.  The mascara has great brush bristles and is not too heavy.  The best make-up consultants use Maybelline which is a good enough recommendation for me. There are different options to choose from.  I’ve always used Maybelline Great Lash. There are six colors to choose from.  $4.97.

I’ve always used an eyelash curler because I think it opens up the eyes.  Revlon eyelash curlers have been around since the 1920s.  It does makes eyes look larger, and has extra padding so you won’t pinch your lid.  A tip I learned writing this article and never knew before – the proper time to use a curler is before applying mascara.  $11.99.

For men – Old Spice Original – High Endurance antiperspirant and deodorant. It launched in 1938 as a deodorant for women, and it was so successful they launched a men’s deodorant.  It reduces sweat and provides odor protection all day and has a fresh scent that is popular among men.
A 3 oz. size is $9.11.

Head & Shoulders shampoo is still the go-to product to help with dandruff.  It is the same recipe Its always had. Made by Proctor & Gamble, it was launched in the U.S. in 1961.  $9.99 for a 13.5 oz. bottle.
