New Year

2020, here we come!

The New Year is always a mixed blessing – we’re happy to be celebrating it, of course, we’re all older, and then there are those pesky resolutions. I have stopped making New Year’s resolutions and I have found it liberating.  Some lucky people have success with their resolutions (8% of those making them), and many people do not.  I always have goals, however, usually ones that are easily achievable, like trying new things, or continuing whatever went well the previous year. Good luck whichever path you take!

A favorite New Year’s poem:

i am running into a new year
and the old years blow back
like a wind
that i catch in my hair
like strong fingers like
all my old promises and
it will be hard to let go
of what i said to myself
about myself
when i was sixteen and
twentysix and thirtysix
even thirtysix but
i am running into a new year
and i beg what i love and
i leave to forgive me
