Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

Didn’t get to many music festivals or concerts this summer? Stay in the air conditioning and stream the ones you missed from the comfort of your couch.   You Tube,  PBS (“Austin City Limits” and “Great Performances”) and Red Bull TV (music festivals) apps are great sources for classic concert films, music documentaries and live performance series. Stingray Qello is a streaming service for full-length concerts and music documentaries on-demand. Browse by artist, genre and era. They have subscribers in 160 countries. Their music library contains all music genres. They offer a free 7-day trial. A subscription is $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year.

Hannah Gadsby is a Tasmanian comedienne whose just-released special, Nanette, is the personal story of her experience as a marginalized person. It is very funny and achingly sad. It is an hour on an emotional roller coaster and worth every minute.  As one reviewer said “Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix comedy special, Nanette, is a study in vulnerability.”  All I can say is that she is brilliant, an expert at her craft, and she permanently changed my perspective on the world in just one hour. You might not like her, or agree with her, but you will no longer view the world in quite the same way.

The special was produced by Netflix.

Flower Flash is a gift to New Yorkers from Lewis Miller Design. It is random acts of floral beauty all around New York City that began in 2016. They have added beauty in the form of fresh flowers to subway entrances, construction sites, statues, park benches, trash cans and bus stops. They often use the leftover flowers from an event the day or evening before – what a wonderful way to brighten people’s day!

Field Skillets are made by two brothers who began the business after only one of them could inherit their grandmother’s vintage cast iron skillet – which they both coveted.   Field skillets are lightweight, smooth and made to last. When ASE first wrote about them, they were only available months out on Kickstarter. Now you can buy your skillet immediately in two sizes. #8 is $100 and #10 is $135. See ASE article on Cast Iron Skillets.

Cast iron skillets cook evenly and have a great feel, but the handles get hot. I like these silicone handle covers. $4.89 each.
