This is a very clever book. An on-line magazine, Smithmag, challenged readers to submit six word memoirs. The magazine was swamped with entries, and the editors culled the best for this book. Can an entire story be told in six words, as the book claims? In many cases, yes. These are hilarious, sad, touching, clever, and informative.
An article in the February 25, 2008 issue of The New Yorker tells us that a 25 year old hairdresser from St. Paul sent in the entry that became the book’s title – Not Quite What I Was Planning.
Smith is holding a new contest for a second book. If you’re tempted to send in an entry, click here.
