I love heating up a delicious muffin or croissant and spreading soft butter on it. I hate discovering that there is no butter at room temperature available!
When you apply pats of rock solid, cold butter to the surface of your treats, you tear them apart. You take a bite and you get warm muffin and a block of cold butter. Very unappealing. As a result I always have soft butter out in a fun covered butter dish at room temperature. Room temperature butter quickly melts when added to anything warm. Yum.
Have you wondered how long butter stays fresh if left out? My research results varied from a few days to a week. Salted butter lasts longer than unsalted. I leave my butter out until it is used up and have never had a problem, so go with the taste-test.

What would an article about butter dishes be without a couple of butter molds thrown in? Here are two we think are fun –
The lamb is made from wood and is very simple to use. Put butter in the mold and squeeze both sides together. That’s it! The mold is 4 1⁄2” wide x 2 1⁄2” tall and 1 1⁄2” deep. It is $39.95.
