Some voices just melt my heart. Email is not the same. Even letters (remember those?) are less convincing than the voice of a friend. VoiceQuilt allows you to 'sew’ together the voices of friends and family into a gift for someone special. Friends dial in, speak their message into the phone and their voice is added to the audio ‘quilt’.
I just added my voice to a 'quilt' for a friend's big birthday. She can download the piece right away and she'll receive a music box which plays all the messages.
I am imagining all the people who would love to hear the voices and share the memories of distant family and friends - for an anniversary, birthday, family reunion, wedding, retirement, moving from a beloved home, arrival of a new baby - what a personal way to capture the best stories and the funniest memories. It is like listening to speeches at a birthday dinner - without the blushing.
To try it out, go to VoiceQuilt at: www.voicequilt.com.
The process:
- Choose a toll free phone package and set up an outgoing message. Costs range from $19.95 for the dial-in recording and free download, to hundreds of dollars to send a wooden music box to play back the voices.
- Invite callers
- Create a playlist of your favorite messages - online
- Choose a gift. Send a music box with all the voices, or a CD. You can send the 'quilt' by Facebook or download it as an MP3 file to play on any digital media player.
- You can always add to the quilt
