Online Interior decorator services

The benefits and efficiency of using online decorating services.

We’ve been curious about online interior decorator services, both fee-based and free. These sites are great for people who have little time, or don’t know where to begin when designing the interiors of their homes. For a relatively modest amount of money, the client will get ideas for colors, floor plans and other resources. For larger scale and more complicated projects the price increases as do the services and expertise of the designers. Although an online service will not replace the one-on-one experience of working with an interior designer or architect, these e-services can be helpful.

Fee-Based Online Design Services

Havenly

Havenly is one of the most economical services. Havenly will match the client with a designer or they can go through the company’s designer list to make their own choice. Once client and designer are connected, the client fills out a room profile that includes a budget and wish list for decor pieces.

The Mini package, $79, is recommended for final touches to a space or a seasonal refresh for a room. The client receives 3 ideas, 1 design concept and 2 design revisions. The package includes 1 – 2 weeks of design time plus 2 weeks of post design support.

The Full package, $199, is best for a new room or makeover. In addition to the Mini package, the Full package includes a layout visualization, 1 floor plan and 2 design revisions. There is a 2 to 3 week design time and 4 weeks of post design support.

An additional service from Havenly is that the designer can act as a resource concierge which includes ordering pieces included in the final design and setting up delivery. The client receives trade discounts on the purchased items. One stop design and shop, all from the comfort of the living room.

Laurel & Wolf

To get started with Laurel & Wolf, the client uploads pictures of the room, provides colors, design ideas and needs.

The Light package starts at $79 and is limited to accessories and decor. The client is matched with one of their 800 designers who provide a custom design final plan, personalized shopping list and 5 days of unlimited design revisions.

The Classic package is $111.75/room. It includes what’s in the Light package, plus 10 days of design time and a 3D visualization. The Signature plan is currently $174.30/room and adds phone consultation with the designer.

Like Havenly, Laurel & Wolf designers are concierge shoppers and will arrange the shopping portion of the decorating for you. They have teamed up with Home Depot, so anyone can walk into a store and find the Laurel & Wolf area for design assistance.

Decorist

Decorist’s system starts by selecting a room, a budget level and providing answers to a series of questions to get matched with a designer. The pricing is per room. The Classic is $299 and provides 2 design concepts, a final floor plan review, and an online shopping list with complimentary shopping. The next level is the Elite for $599 and comes with a designer with 5+ years of experience. The Celebrity level is $1299 and includes 2 mood boards, a design and accessory board, and a 30-minute call with the client’s personal project manager.

Decorilla

Decorilla starts with questions and uploading the client’s pictures. Price depends on the room and level of designer who will be providing the design. For instance, the Bronze level for a living room is $599 with two experienced designers providing concepts. The Gold level is $1299 and two “vastly experienced” designers provide their concepts. The service includes a floor plan, 3D modeling, 10% off decor, and a furniture and color palette.

Free Online Services

Many furniture, paint and flooring companies offer complimentary online tools to provide visual plans for the project. These services are useful, but not as design oriented as the fee-based services. Designers may be available in stores, not online.
